Hey girly! I just think it's the time of the year. I feel like I want to enjoy some of the summer without the computer on the front line, so I backed off. I've been out of the loop for the past week, just taking a break from any major brainstorming. I think once my daughter officially starts Kindergarten, I won't be so distracted and can get back on track. My inbox will love it when I can get in there again as well!

I get "all funked up" a LOT, unfortunately. It usually helps me to remember where I'm going and take even one teeny, tiny step toward getting there. That, and/or do a RAK for someone - like y'all did having lunch with those aunts. It probably made their day, so WTG! :)

I go with the funk for at least one full day. I try to plan an "end" to it - and I get away from work to do other things I want or need to do. We don't really give ourselves "vacation days" and we need to remember to do that. When it's time to go back to work, if I still don't feel like it, I think about the reality of What if I don't work? What happens? Reality usually knocks the funk right outta me.

Kelly,

I can sure relate to funkiness.. kinda going through it now. Don't have any tricks per se, I know I'll ride it out. But I'm realizing that trying to push through the regular tasks when I feel this way does NOT work so well. Learning about rhythm and realizing that I just have to poke around until I find where my energy will flow (today, NOT blogging but throwing stuff out from kids' closet).

And some days, it's just hanging around. I think accepting the need to percolate once in awhile, attend to the inner life...just as valuable as "doing".. yes?

I hear you! Been wandering in and out of one myself the last week as I balk at returning to the city after a summer in the hills. My saving graces have been sunshine and running, but any kind of physical activity can substitute for running. i have to force myself to get out, both for the run and the sun. but the sun NEVER fails me in the cheer-up category. i also eliminate things so that I don't feel so oppressed ... give myself permission to drop commitments, jobs, details, etc in an effort to lower the bar for re-entry :). good luck with the cabin and the funk both!

If it's just a little funk, just getting outside to take a walk, and maybe go sit in the woods - helps me a lot! If it's a bigger funk - I clean and/or organize as much of my office as I can, because, so often - it's my disorganized mess that is stopping in my tracks to begin with!

Hi Kelly,
It always helps me to ask myself the question, "What am I committed to?" This usually enables me to broaden my perspective back to the "big picture" of my life.

Another thing that helps me is to ask myself, "What is it that I am really needing right now in this moment, and how can I take respnsibility for meeting that need for myself?" Once I ask this question, I am usually able to more clearly see the deeper self-care need that is underneath my distraction, frustration, procrastination, lack of motivation, etc. From there it is easier for me to chose more proactive actions and behaviors to move forward.

Hope this helps. Here's to a funk free week! ;)

Kelly,

I am right there with you. I also have the distraction of the kids. They require so much attention.
I'm ready for the lake & campfire. LOL
